Bound to Perfection
The House of Book Bindery (THOBB) - Judge the Book by Its Binding - was established more than 20 years ago in Kuching, Sarawak and became the one and still the one until today providing professional leather binding services in Malaysia.
The man behind this beautiful, exclusive industry is Hamsurie Waslie, son of Sri Aman Resident, back in 1997 and also an apprentice of master bookbinder in Dublin, John F. Newman.
THOBB book binders are the only crafters who bound the book by using traditional methods including coptic binding, manual press, custom boxes, premium leather bound, and book restoration.
The oldest restoration that has been done is for the book dated in 1739 to 1836. And the most books to bind was from magistrate, high court, and several more agencies. Today, THOBB has expanded the wing by planting the apprentice in Brunei and West Malaysia.
